Meet Susan L Combs

The Biz Stuff…

It doesn’t seem possible, but it’s been more than 20 years now since Susan L Combs first hung
up her shingle for Combs & Company. It was a daring move for a 26-year-old, but Susan had a
plan and a belief that her mantra of “do more, better” would resonate with people. History has
proved her right. Combs & Co has grown into an internationally-recognized resource for
businesses with needs in all matters of commercial insurance and employee benefits. The
Combs Crew has also grown, with subject matter experts filling vital roles to ensure clients
secure their necessary coverages. And in the last decade Susan has become a sought-after
expert witness on the Affordable Care Act.
Susan has also turned family challenges into a best-selling book, Pancakes for Roger: A
Mentorship Guide to Slaying Dragons, and a veterans-focused nonprofit, Pancakes For
Roger (https://pancakesforroger.org/). With the 501(c)(3), Susan continues to proudly support
the University of Missouri School of Law Veterans Clinic and is expanding opportunities for
veterans to better their lives and those of their communities.

The Fun Stuff…

For the first time in more than 20 years, Susan no longer calls New York City home. She, her
husband, and their “kids” (Pepper (cat) and Roxy (dog)) now call New Hampshire home. Their
new surroundings are more of a return to her roots, as Susan grew up in King City, MO, a
farming town of less than 1,000 people. With a personality and drive larger than her family
farms, Susan headed to the University of Missouri (M-I-Z!) and then right to NYC after
graduation. While no longer in the same time zone, Susan remained close to her family (mom,
dad, and two older brothers), especially when her father, Major General Roger E. Combs,
passed in 2018.
Susan’s interests are as diverse as her history.  She is a HUGE KC Chiefs and KC Royals fan,
and is always cheering for her alma mater, the Mizzou Tigers (regardless of the competition)!
Susan loves CrossFit and Strongman, and integrates these passions into the Pancakes For
Roger fundraising efforts. She’s built a pretty slick garden in NH and grown some amazing
produce and flowers. Susan travels frequently for work, so a favorite pastime is to explore a
new city and hit a restaurant on the Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives list.
